ABOUT US

Scott Holmquist is a US and French citizen based in Berlin since 2011. His work usually builds on long-term research, including interviews with subjects and the assembly of archives. Subjects have included cannabis growing communities in Humboldt County, California, which are the basis of his “chronic freedom series” of art books and numerous presentations and exhibits, most recently at the 2017 Cannifest. Berlin and German park drug dealers have been subjects, first treated in presentations at Washington, DC’s Goethe Institute in 2013 and the 2014 installation “Die dritte Mauer und der letzte Held” at the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum in Berlin, 2014. Another research-archiving work, “Low Tide,” assembles graphic representations from all forms of published documents of Humboldt Bay, California. Earlier subjects include the Swedish raggare, about which he has published and was interviewed for the 2009 documentary, “Raggare.”

Sophie Perl (*1985, USA) is public historian and curator. She earned a BA in German studies from Yale University and an MA in public history from the FU Berlin before starting to work at the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum in 2014. In this capacity she curated exhibits by the Büro für ungewöhnliche Maßnahmen and the photographer Jutta Matthess, organized the renewal of the permanent exhibition with a focus on gentrification, and led the film and exhibition project “Ferngespräche” with short films by people who are refugees in Berlin. In 2014 she coordinated Scott Holmquist’s 2014 intervention “Die dritte Mauer und der letzte Held.” Currently she is heading the digital publication of 25,000 photos by Jürgen Henschel of “alternative West Berlin” before 1989. Her cultural-historical work revolves around the inclusion and communication of multiple perspectives and political positions.

Moro Yapha is a Gambian educator and radio announcer, as well as refugee and media activist. He has been based in Berlin since 2014, when he arrived in Germany and applied for political asylum. In addition to producing the twice weekly WeAreBornFree eRadio broadcast, via Reboot.fm, he has been active in refugee media education programs and maintaining the Facebook page, SOLIDARITY NO TO DISCRIMINATION AND FIGHT AGAINST RACISM. Since March 2016 he has advised research efforts for the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum's "Other Homelands: Origins and Migration Routes of Berlin Park Drug Sellers," exhibit.

Philipp Muras is a German painter and visual artist based in Berlin since 1999. Trained in art history, he archived the work of the Michel Majerus Estate for the neugerriemschneider gallery from 2004 to 2012. For Bonack Aesthetic Engineering he managed visual-work preparation with artists such as Jorinde Voigt, Thomas Demand, Simon Starling, Wolfgang Tillmans from 2012 to 2016. His own work has shown in exhibits Zu Asche. Zu Bildern. Änderungen aller Art, Mönchengladbach (2015), HMS Bildkunst, with Lisa Herfeldt and Meik Stamer, Palais für aktuelle Kunst, Glückstadt (2013), Flugschiffe + Bildbunker, Künstlerhaus Sootbörn, Hamburg (2013) or No Words for Translation, Käthe-Niederkirchner Str. 25, Berlin (2011).

Sara Stenczer is a Hungarian curator whose first exhibit opened in Paris in 2008. Since 2013, she has lived and worked in Berlin, primarily for the project space povvera in Charlottenburg, more recently for Scott Holmquist Studio. Her numerous exhibitions in Budapest, Shanghai, Sidney, Tirana, Catania, and Ljubljana, have most often been group shows engaging social and political inequality and injustice. She is a graduate of Eötvös Lóránd University, Budapest, in art history, and the Sorbonne University, in contemporary art curatorship. She lived and worked as a freelance curator and art critic for five years in Paris, then four years in Budapest.

Tom Ritchford has been programming and composing computer music since the late 70s, and is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, particularly on the WX-7 electronic wind instrument.  After thirty years in the Brooklyn underground scene, he retired to Amsterdam in late 2016 to write a book on software engineering.
